John Croft is a freelance aerospace writer and flight instructor based near Annapolis, Maryland. Croft started his career as a guidance and control engineer with NASA and later moved into aerospace journalism. At Aviation Week & Space Technology, he covered the avionics and safety beats from 2012-2017. Croft most recently worked as a speechwriter and safety analyst at the FAA before retiring in January 2025.
