Owner Flight Training
Saturday, December 5, 2026 • 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM • Pompano Beach Airpark (KPMP)
On the last day of the workshop, owners and their companions can fly with an instructor in their own TBM. The owner session covers slow flight, stalls and engine-out procedures, with a ground briefing before and a debrief after. Companions get their own session, described below.
How do I schedule a flight session?
Add the flight session when you register. Mona or Misty will then contact you to set your exact time slot.
Will I use my own aircraft?
Yes. Training is done in your own airplane. Park at Pompano Beach Airpark (KPMP), at the Daher service center that's hosting the workshop.
Companion flying
Companions can fly too. If your spouse, partner or a regular passenger rides along in your TBM, they can book their own two-hour flight session with an instructor in your airplane, in the same Saturday window. It's a chance to get comfortable in the cockpit, understand what's happening on a flight and learn how to help.
- Signing up: add the companion flight session when you register. Mona or Misty will contact you to set the time slot.
- Aircraft: the session is flown in your TBM at KPMP. Please have it fueled and bring the keys.
- Insurance: your Certificate of Insurance must cover companion training and list TBMOPA, its representatives and instructors as Additional Insureds with a Waiver of Subrogation (see Insurance requirements below). Without the certificate, companions can't fly.
- Ground school books: if your companion has done TBMOPA companion ground school before, bring the books from that course.
Where do I stay?
Pilots book their own hotel and ground transportation. We have a group rate at The Boca Raton: call 561.208.1100 and mention TBMOPA.
- $425 per night (single or double), plus a $45 nightly resort charge and tax. A third adult in the room adds $30 per night.
- The rate covers the nights of December 2 through 5, and up to 3 days before and after if rooms are available.
- Booking takes a credit card and the first night as a deposit, refundable up to 3 days before the workshop.
- Check-in starts at 4:00 PM and checkout is by 11:00 AM.
- If you check out earlier than your booking, the hotel charges a $425 early departure fee. Tell the front desk at check-in if your plans change.
Flying Saturday? Book Saturday night or plan your checkout around your slot.
What do I need to bring?
- Airworthiness Certificate and Registration Certificate
- Pilot certificate, current medical and photo ID
- Aircraft and engine logbooks (or copies of the pages) showing the last annual inspection, ELT battery replacement date, transponder inspection date and altimeter/static inspection date
- Weight and balance data
- A current GPS database
- Current charts, sectionals and approach plates for the training area
- Checklists for your airplane
- An airworthy airplane. If we find something that makes the aircraft unairworthy by FAA standards, we'll work with you to finish the flying portion after the problem is fixed.
Will I get an IPC or Flight Review?
No. The session is an in-depth review of specific areas, and it isn't set up to meet IPC or Flight Review requirements.
What will I receive afterward?
A letter confirming you attended the Boca Raton Winter Safety Workshop and the flight session provided by SimCom.
Can I request a specific instructor?
We'll do our best. Let us know when you book. We can't guarantee which instructor you'll be assigned.
Cancellation policy
Cancel more than one week before the program starts and you get a full refund. Cancel within one week of your flight session and you forfeit your deposit.
Insurance requirements
