Experience the Royal Gorge Railroad

The Royal Gorge Route Railroad has been a part of the rich history of Canon City for over 100 years. In 1880, the first rails in train car history reached Leadville and sparked the beginning of a new era for the Royal Gorge area. Since then, several locomotives have been a part of Canon City’s railroad, and even to this day some still operate!

The Vista Dome cars offer the most spectacular views of the breathtaking Royal Gorge and the mighty Arkansas River. Here, TBMOPA guests are invited to ride and dine in comfortable booth-style seating for a relaxing journey through this meandering canyon. You’ll also have direct access to one of our open-air cars, for an up-close-and-personal experience of the 1,000-foot deep Royal Gorge.

During your trip, fresh, delicious, locally sourced ingredients combine to make our 403 menu (named after our 1950’s locomotive) a favorite for breakfast and lunch aboard Vista Dome. Try one of our many popular appetizers and other favorites like our Basil Chicken Panini, grass-fed Angus & buffalo burgers.

Long before Garden of The Gods was a park, geological features began to form. It all begins in the Pleistocene Ice Age, which resulted in the erosion and glaciation of the rock, creating the present rock formations. The ancient sea remains of mountain ranges, alluvial fans, sandy beaches, and sand dune fields can all be found in the rock.

The outstanding geological features of the park are the highly visible sedimentary rock formations. These rocks were created as ancient mountains eroded and were buried in their own sediments. Massive sand dunes moved across the land, and shallow seas and deeper oceans encroached and retreated.

Each environment left behind gravel, sand, and ocean deposits that formed horizontal layers over millions of years. The multiple formations were then uplifted and slowly brought to the surface by a series of mountain-building events.

The resulting rocks are stood-up, pushed around, and slanted. “Balanced Rock”, at the south end of the Park, was formed as erosive processes removed the softer layers near its base, eventually leaving the precarious-looking outcrop seen today.

TBMOPA Golf hosted by JJ Suarez - Wednesday, September 6

WEST COURSE
Get ready for rolling fairways, multi-level greens, and demanding hazards at the stunning yet formidable West Course. At 6,800 feet, this 18-hole course has more doglegs and steeply-angled greens than the East Course, and offers breathtaking views of both the mountains and Colorado Springs. The West Course plays tighter off the tee, with more heavily tree-lined holes than the East Course, and also gives players an array of spectacular approach shots. Don't let the stunning mountain views distract you; our West Course may look like a postcard, but it offers a very challenging and rewarding round of golf. The West Course was also the host site of the 1998 PGA Cup Matches.

Tee time is at noon on Wednesday

Price is $275 per person, cart is included in green fee

Rental Clubs are $88 for a full round
